Indian esports and gaming firm Skyesports has teamed up with collegiate esports tournament platform MOGO to present the MOGO National Championship.

This collegiate esports tournament is set to feature 16 colleges battling it out in VALORANT from September 18th to the 22nd, all vying for a slice of its INR 10 lakhs (~£9,629) prize pool.

The event is scheduled to unfold at the Lovely Professional University in Phagwara, where 16 colleges will engage in competitive face-offs within the university’s capacious 2000-seat arena.

Over 100 teams entered the qualifiers for the event, but only the final 16 teams will progress to compete in a single-elimination bracket to determine the ultimate victor.

Bridging the Gap Between Traditional Sports and Esports

The National Championship’s goal, according to remarks made public, is to ‘bridge the gap‘ between traditional sports and esports in the nation and the region. The ‘Elite Four’ conference championship schedule is something that Skyesports and MOGO are eager to include this event in, along with well-known sports like basketball, kabaddi, and volleyball.

In the past, Skyesports has held esports competitions all around India. It presented the Skyesports Masters, India’s first franchised CS:GO league, in April 2023 and announced the return of the Skyesports Champions Series in June 2023.

Shiva Nandy, the Founder and CEO of Skyesports, shared his thoughts on the matter: “Having a well-developed ecosystem for collegiate Esports is important to nurture talent and grow Esports from the grassroots level.

The MOGO National Championship is doing just that with its pan-India format targeting all major colleges and the LAN Finale at the LPU. All the best to the 16 college teams competing in the inaugural Finale and I look forward to working together with MOGO to bring more events at the collegiate level.

Esports Betting: A Thriving Component of Esports in India

In addition to the buzz around the MOGO National Championship and the expansion of collegiate esports, esports betting is a noteworthy aspect of this dynamic industry.

This trend is anticipated to be further amplified by the collaboration between Skyesports and MOGO to host the National Championship. The esports betting community is expected to pay the event greater attention as it rises in stature and popularity. Esports fans and bettors will both be keenly monitoring the tournament’s developments, assessing team performances, and placing informed wagers.
