The poker scene in Latin America is gearing up for an exhilarating event. The Kings Series of Poker (KSOP) GGPoker South America is set to grace Brazil in January of the upcoming year. Touted as the most significant poker event ever to hit the region, this tournament is ready to raise the stakes with a guaranteed prize pool of BRL 35 million (approximately US$7.1 million).

Over the course of 15 days, the vibrant coastal town of Barra da Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro will play host to this thrilling event. The tournament will feature more than 70 events, including a BRL$100,000 (US$20,000) Super High Roller contest that promises to be a star-studded affair.

One of the highlights will be the BRL5,000 (US$1,000) Main Event, which boasts a guaranteed prize pool of BRL10 million (US$2 million). The victor of this prestigious showdown will walk away with not only their earnings but an additional BRL2 million (US$408,000) in cash.

Shaking up South America’s poker community

Anticipation is running high for this poker extravaganza. The KSOP press release is rife with excitement, asserting that this tournament series will “revolutionize the Brazilian poker community.” The Super High Roller event is poised to be a dazzling spectacle, featuring prominent Brazilian players alongside international poker luminaries.

Felipe “Mojave” Ramos, a GGPoker ambassador and a key figure on Brazil’s all-time poker money list, shared his enthusiasm for the event on Twitter. He emphasized that this tournament presents a remarkable opportunity for players, highlighting the absence of direct taxes on winnings. Additionally, the tournament’s diverse event offerings cater to all budgets, ensuring accessibility for a broad spectrum of players.

GGPoker, the online poker platform, will launch satellite events starting from November 5, granting aspiring players a shot at entering the main event. Simultaneously, players can participate in various tournaments and challenges to win packages that encompass tournament entry and lodging at the luxurious Sheraton Grand Rio, the event’s host location.

A continuing partnership

This upcoming series marks a continuation of the successful collaboration between GGPoker and KSOP, which was initiated earlier this year. The inaugural series unfolded in Rio de Janeiro from February 8 to 14, marking the start of a schedule comprising seven stages across different Latin American countries. While five stages are live events, the remaining two are hosted online.

Amidst varying participation levels at different events, the recently concluded World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas enjoyed remarkable attendance, underscoring the sustained global interest in poker. Consequently, the global poker calendar continues to fill up with a wide array of tournaments.

The Maryland State Poker Championship is presently underway, while the WSOP Europe is set to commence this October. Although the WSOP Europe Main Event might not match the $12 million prize of its Las Vegas counterpart, it is undoubtedly gaining momentum. Taking place in the Czech Republic, the event guarantees a prize pool of €5 million ($5.51 million), having exceeded the guarantee by $2.3 million in the previous year.

Furthermore, PokerStars and Casino Barcelona are poised to transform the city into an international poker hub this month. From August 11 to 21, Casino Barcelona will host the Spanish Poker Championship, followed by the Estrellas Poker Tour from August 21 to 28. The PokerStars Live European Poker Tour (EPT) is also set to make its presence felt in Barcelona from August 21 to September 3, before moving on to Cyprus in October and Prague in December.
